Our Founding Story
In 2017, a small group began meeting weekly to pray for peace in eastern DR Congo. Out of those gatherings, the Jeremiah Center for Faith and Society was born. In 2018, the team restored a damaged school campus and formed a Congolese board. Their first act was to listen — gathering Christian leaders to ask two questions: What does it take to reimagine hope in DR Congo? What does it take for that hope to be realized?
The Context:
A Nation in Crisis
For over two decades, DR Congo has endured ongoing war, mass displacement, and widespread violence — with Ituri Province especially affected. Ethnic tensions, fueled by historical wounds and political manipulation, continue to divide communities and displace millions.
What We Learned:
Through stories and dialogue, we came to understand that much of the region’s conflict is not rooted in inherent hatred, but in narratives — myths, proverbs, and cultural messages — that fuel fear and division. These stories, often passed down or politicized, become barriers to peace.
Our Approach:
We begin by listening. Our research gathers personal and communal stories to uncover the deeper roots of conflict. This insight shapes workshops and gatherings with community members, government officials, and even militia leaders — creating space for understanding, trust, and reconciliation.
Our Staff & Advisors
The Jeremiah Center is a peacebuilding and leadership training initiative rooted in Nyankunde, DR Congo. Founded by Dr. Katho, the center is a response to decades of violence, designed to equip Christian leaders to become agents of reconciliation and renewal in their communities.
